Former prime minister Imran Khan agreed to put off the vote of confidence, which he insisted the Punjab chief minister should take before Jan 11.
Parvez Elahi is unlikely to go ahead with the exercise when the 42nd session of the provincial assembly resumes on Monday (today). The opposition, led by the PML-N, will show its strength in the house.
The 11th session, which began on Oct 23, 2022, will resume at 2 pm after a 16-day break. Sibtain Khan presides.
The assembly secretariat’s Sunday agenda excludes Mr. Elahi’s vote of confidence, as directed by Governor Balighur Rehman.
Five bills will be introduced, the Public Sector Universities (Amendment) Bill 2022 will be reconsidered and passed, and members’ written questions about the school education department will be addressed.
The governor declared on Dec 19 that the chief minister did not have a majority of the house’s support, so he must take a vote of confidence after 48 hours on Dec 21, and ordered an assembly sitting for the purpose.
