Eighteen Pakistanis, comprising 12 civilians and six fishermen previously detained in Indian jails, have been released and heartily received upon their return to Pakistan.
After completing their sentences, these individuals were escorted across the Wagah border by Indian officials and handed over to the Punjab Rangers. The repatriates arrived in Pakistan with enthusiastic cheers and nationalistic chants. Echoes of “Pakistan Zindabad” (Long Live Pakistan) resonated throughout the atmosphere, mirroring the crowd’s collective joy and relief.
The group of freed prisoners, including Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Waqas, Nazish, Ghulam Rasool, Muhammad Ramzan, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Shan, Luqman Muhammad Chandani, Raheb Ali Chandani, Ahmed, Roshan Ali, Abdul Amin, Muhammad Arif, Fareed Alam, Muhammad Ramzan, and Mushtaq Ahmed, experienced a heartfelt welcome home.
The Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi greatly facilitated the repatriation of these prisoners. Notably, Pakistan has demonstrated goodwill in the past four months by releasing 400 Indian prisoners, many of whom were fishermen. In comparison, India released 22 Pakistani prisoners in May 2023, and with this latest development, an additional 18 individuals have been able to return home.
