An explosion in the Ghulam Khan district, North Waziristan, near the Afghan border injured eight persons, including women transported by a police vehicle.
On Sunday, at about 4:00 a.m., unidentified assailants assaulted Deputy Inspector Aminulla at his residence. The wounded cop in the vehicle was transported to the hospital when a device exploded nearby.
“He was being moved in a car when the explosion occurred, wounding eight persons; two victims were women’. The police officer added.
He stated that the injured were sent to the Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in the Bannu district and that three were in serious condition. A police team has arrived at the scene to investigate the attack.
According to the official, after an intense exchange of gunfire with terrorists, authorities repelled an assault on a police station in the Gomal Bazar neighborhood of Tanka district early Saturday evening.
“Their (militants’) movements have been watched with thermal cameras. They [militants] attacked the police station, but the police replied instantly,” claimed an officer, adding that this was the fourth attack in a week on police officers in the region.
According to official reports, 13 and 15 militants participated in the attack, which lasted approximately 15 minutes. A contingent reached the scene immediately. However, there were no reported injuries.
The provincial police chief contacted the police officers at the police station immediately and commended their bravery. In addition, he announced monetary rewards and diplomas for the affected police officers. Meanwhile, authorities in the district of Lakki Marwat stopped a similar assault on a police post in the district of Bahmala.
“Using thermal imaging cameras, the police traced the movements of numerous individuals and opened fire,” a senior police officer told Dawn, adding that there was a shootout between the police and the militants, who subsequently fled.
