The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) earlier today decided to ban rallies and public gatherings of political parties besides ordering to take down banners and big sign boards on display in connection with the upcoming Local Government elections in Punjab.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the electoral body of the country here with representatives of political parties and government officials.

The meeting also decided to ensure complete implementation of the ECP’s code of conduct besides banning rallies and public gathering of all types in the wake of local bodies polls.

Candidates would, however, be allowed to hold corner meetings with prior permission of the commission. They were directed during the meeting to take down all billboards and banners to avoid a strict action.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) complained that Khawaja Ahmed Khan has been elected unopposed by pressurising the PTI candidate. They urged police officials to not harass and pressurise any candidates.

The capital city police officer (CCPO) Lahore assured the participants of the meeting that the police will remain completely impartial during the elections.
