Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday adjourned hearing of the references against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif till 28th September

The election commission heard the references filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami Muslim League (AML) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The counsel of the prime minister, in his arguments, pleaded to the court for time to study the case as they don’t have the copies of the case papers. The lawyer representing the opposing parties argued that the government is using delaying tactics.

“The government’s lawyer should have come up with a reply in the hearing today,” the opposition’s counsel said.

In the last hearing, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had summoned Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Hamza Shahbaz, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar today.

PPP’s Barrister Latif Khosa, in the previous hearing, had claimed that PM Nawaz Sharif is the actual owner of the offshore companies, as his children were minor when these companies were registered.

The PPP counsel argued that Nawaz Sharif in the column of assets had wrote that he has no home and living in the residence of his mother.

The references, filed by the four parties, state that Nawaz Sharif is not eligible to become the prime minister under the Article 62 and 63 of the constitution.

Article 62 and 63 of the constitution states that a person has to be Sadiq and Ameen (honest and truthful) in order to become the prime minister of the country.
