Former President and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Dr. Arif Alvi, has criticized Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, accusing him of fostering conditions encouraging floor-crossing to extend his tenure. Alvi compared Isa’s actions with those of the current government, which he claimed is compromising the Constitution to ensure its survival.
During a conversation with journalists at the Anti-Terrorism Court—where he visited detained PTI lawmakers linked to the riots on May 9 following Imran Khan’s arrest—Alvi stated, “I have never encountered a chief justice like Faez Isa.”
He further attacked the Chief Justice, asserting that Isa has inflicted more harm on the nation than Justice Munir, a judge from the 1950s known for judicial overreach. Alvi voiced his concerns about what he termed a “bazaar of cruelty,” alleging that the Chief Justice had turned the judicial system into a marketplace for trading individuals akin to the historical slave trade in America.
Additionally, Alvi challenged the application of Article 63-A, which pertains to defection, labelling it unnecessary and a means to extend Isa’s tenure. He emphasized the need for judicial reforms in lower courts to serve the public rather than merely prolonging tenures.
On the subject of PTI’s rallies, Alvi attributed the violence and chaos solely to the police, maintaining that PTI’s rallies were inherently peaceful. In response to a query about the situation in Gaza and Palestine, Alvi commended Iran for its stance against Israel and called on Muslim nations to remember the struggles of Muslims in Gaza, Palestine, and Kashmir, urging unity and adherence to Quaid-e-Azam’s vision of a singular state with a Palestinian majority.
