Donald Trump surprised many when he expressed goodwill toward Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement announcement on August 26.
During a live-streamed cabinet meeting, reporters asked for his reaction. Trump, 79, responded, “Well, I wish them a lot of luck. I think he’s a great player and a great guy, and she’s a terrific person. I wish them the best.” Trump’s conciliatory tone shocked followers, as Trump has often criticised Swift, especially after she endorsed Democratic candidates in recent elections.
Just a few months ago, Trump expressed his anger towards Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race. He posted on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” In spite of this, his daughter, Ivanka, and granddaughter, Arabella, attended Swift’s Eras Tour shortly afterwards. Trump mocked Swift, saying, “Has anyone noticed that since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer hot?” His remarks fueled speculation about a personal feud and reinforced his criticism of what he calls “woke culture.”

Trump reignited the debate by praising Sydney Sweeney, star of Euphoria and a model for American Eagle. He called her advertisement the “hottest” and emphasised her Republican affiliation. In contrast, he claimed that Taylor Swift was “booed at the Super Bowl” and suggested she no longer represents a positive symbol.
Meanwhile, the entertainment world celebrated the engagement of Swift and Kelce. Both aged 35, they shared the news on social media. Swift posted photos of Kelce’s custom-designed ring, captioning them playfully: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” On the New Heights podcast, Swift revealed that Kelce won her heart by making a romantic gesture to meet her during her Eras Tour.
