An assassination attempt targeted Donald Trump at Saturday’s campaign rally; Donald Trump was shot in the ear, resulting in blood streaking across his face. His security quickly intervened, and shortly afterwards, Trump reappeared, visibly rallying with a fist pump and the words “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

The incident resulted in the death of the shooter and one attendee, with two others injured, the Secret Service confirmed. They are investigating this as a possible assassination attempt, according to Reuters.

At 78, Trump was beginning his speech when the incident occurred. He instinctively touched his ear, examined his hand, and knelt behind the podium. Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded him for protection. Without his “Make America Great Again” hat, Trump soon stood and was escorted to a vehicle while urging patience.

Trump later described on Truth Social that the bullet had pierced the upper part of his right ear, causing significant bleeding. The event took place in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The identity and motive of the shooter remain unclear. Leaders from both major political parties have widely condemned this violence.

Bloomberg notes that Trump, having been treated, is reportedly in good condition and has been discharged from the hospital.

This shooting occurs as the presidential election approaches on November 5. Trump is challenging incumbent Joe Biden. Polls show a tight race.

Biden has publicly denounced the violence and emphasized national unity against such acts.

Following the incident, Biden and Trump spoke, as confirmed by the White House.

This event has raised security concerns, especially regarding the Secret Service’s effectiveness in protecting former presidents like Trump.

A rally attendee described the rapid response by the Secret Service and the chaos during the shooting, noting that the gunfire seemed to originate from outside the secured area. The FBI has taken the lead in the ongoing investigation.
