In a striking comment during his “Person of the Year” interview with Time magazine, former President Donald Trump criticized the use of American missiles by Ukraine in Russian territory, labelling the strategy as “crazy” and a potential escalator of war tensions.
Trump expressed strong disapproval of the current U.S. policy under President Joe Biden, which supports Ukraine’s military actions against Russia.
“It’s crazy what’s taking place. I vehemently disagree with sending missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why are we doing that? We’re just escalating this war and making it worse. That should not have been allowed,” Trump stated, reflecting his concern over the intensification of the conflict.
As per Reuters, the statement came after Biden approved the use of long-range missiles by Ukraine, a move in response to Russia’s deployment of 15,000 North Korean troops along the battlefront.
Trump’s Commitment to Ukraine and Peace Plan
Despite his criticisms, Trump affirmed his support for Ukraine, emphasizing his commitment to finding a peaceful solution without abandoning the country. “I want to reach an agreement, and the only way you’re going to reach an agreement is not to abandon,” he mentioned, hinting at a potential diplomatic approach that he believes could quickly resolve the ongoing war.
“I think I have a very good plan to help, but when I start exposing that plan, it becomes almost a worthless plan,” Trump added, suggesting he holds a strategic proposal yet remains cautious about publicizing it.
Amidst these discussions, there are apprehensions in Ukraine that any rapid resolution might favour Moscow, considering the complex dynamics of the conflict. Trump acknowledged the heavy casualties on both sides, highlighting the mutual benefit of ending the hostilities, “It’s really an advantage to both sides to get this thing done.”
Ukraine’s Call for Stronger Global Action
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been advocating for more robust global action against Russia beyond the existing sanctions, as the conflict has seen a recent escalation with massive missile and drone attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure.

“In another Russian missile strike against Ukraine, a total of 93 missiles were launched, including at least one North Korean missile. Our forces managed to shoot down 81, including 11 cruise missiles intercepted by our F-16s,” Zelenskyy reported.
When questioned about recent communications with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump remained reticent, stating, “I can’t tell you. It’s just inappropriate.”
