Donald Trump has levelled serious allegations against Google, claiming the tech giant deliberately displays only negative stories about him while favouring his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, with positive coverage.
Trump, expressing his frustrations through a post on his Truth Social platform, vowed to seek the prosecution of Google for what he termed “blatant election interference” if he returns to the White House.
In his post, Trump criticized the Justice Department’s current handling of the issue, suggesting that, under his administration, he would push for “maximum” legal action against the company. His allegations follow a report by a conservative group which scrutinized the results of a specific Google search regarding Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
Responding to these accusations, Google refuted any claims of bias, stating that its search algorithms do not favour any political figure. The company emphasized that the search results stemming from a narrowly defined and uncommon query still prominently featured both candidates’ campaign websites.
Google maintains that it operates its search engine fairly, without manipulating results to benefit any political agenda. The company also noted that its search algorithms prioritize factors such as relevance and recency but do not publicly share the specific details of its ranking processes.
This clash comes at a time when Trump is involved in several high-profile legal battles, facing charges ranging from sexual abuse to attempts at undermining the 2020 election results.
