Disney released the first trailer for “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Monday, a prequel to the 2019 hit “The Lion King.”
The film delves into the early years of The Lion King with voice contributions from Beyoncé and her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter.
The one-minute and 32-second trailer features Aaron Pierre’s Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr.’s Scar in the African Pride Lands.
Beyoncé reprises her role as Nala from the 2019 version of “The Lion King,” while her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy voices the daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala, both reprised by Donald Glover.
Barry Jenkins directs the film with a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, famed for “Catch Me If You Can.”
The film is set to release on December 20.
The official synopsis states, “With Simba now king, he intends for his cub to succeed him as Mufasa’s early life unfolds.”
John Kani lends his voice to Rafiki, who narrates Mufasa’s story to his granddaughter, Kiana.
The narrative, presented through flashbacks, portrays Mufasa as a young, orphaned cub who meets Taka, a fellow lion from a royal line. This encounter leads to a crucial journey with a group of misfits searching for their destinies. They unite to confront several challenges, including a deadly foe.
