Janice Combs, the mother of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, has publicly challenged the narrative of a new Netflix documentary. She released an exclusive statement to Deadline on December 6, addressing “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” a docuseries executive-produced by 50 Cent.
In her statement, Janice Combs directly accused the documentary of presenting lies. She intentionally wrote inaccuracies about her son’s “upbringing and family life” to mislead viewers and harm the family’s reputation. The documentary premiered on Netflix on December 2, 2025.
Janice Combs specifically refuted the portrayal of her in the series. “In the documentary, I am portrayed as an abusive parent. This is untrue,” she stated. She described herself as a single mother working three to four jobs to provide a comfortable life and quality education.

She emphasized raising Sean with “love and hard work. Not abuse.” This counters the documentary’s suggestion of a troubled domestic environment during his childhood.
The statement also addresses a serious claim from a documentary interviewee. Janice Combs denied allegations made by Mr. Kirk Burrows that Diddy assaulted her after the City College tragedy on December 28, 1991.
She called the allegations “inaccurate and patently false.” Janice Combs accused Burrows of using a tragedy to promote “fake narratives” in a bid to claim Bad Boy Records, which she called “wrong, outrageous and past offensive.”
