On July 5, 2025, NetEase announced that Destiny: Rising, a mobile-exclusive RPG shooter, will launch on iOS and Android on August 28, 2025, bringing Bungie’s Destiny universe to mobile players.

Revealed via a gameplay trailer at NetEase Connect, Destiny: Rising is set for August 28, 2025, release on iOS and Android, following playtests in 2024. Unlike Destiny 2, it features an alternate timeline with new lore and familiar characters but removes Guardian customisation for mobile optimisation, according to PCGamesN. The free-to-play game, with in-app purchases, targets 10 million downloads, per NetEase’s projections, building on Destiny 2’s 50 million players.

Set in a post-apocalyptic Earth, Destiny: Rising casts players as Guardians defending the Last City against alien threats, adapting Destiny’s FPS mechanics for mobile with streamlined controls. It offers PvE and PvP modes, including 3v3 Crucible matches, per IGN. The trailer showcased vibrant visuals, new destinations, and characters like Ikora Rey, with a focus on cooperative play. NetEase’s mobile expertise, seen in Diablo Immortal, ensures smooth performance on devices like the iPhone 16.

The Destiny franchise, launched by Bungie in 2014, revolutionised the FPS RPG genre, with Destiny 2 (2017) reaching 1.2 million concurrent players. Destiny: Rising, developed under Bungie’s oversight, targets the mobile gaming market, valued at $90 billion, competing with titles like Call of Duty: Mobile.

Destiny: Rising’s mobile launch broadens the franchise’s reach by appealing to 2.8 billion mobile gamers while also diversifying NetEase’s portfolio. The release ignites conversations about the evolution of mobile gaming and the legacy of Destiny, influencing both fans and the industry. As mobile esports continues to grow, this game has the potential to redefine competitive play, offering a new chapter for Guardians worldwide.
