Horror films often evoke a unique sense of unease. Perhaps it’s the suspenseful quiet before a door creaks open or the unsettling shadows cast by a flickering light. In “Deemak,” the terror escalates when an entity appears on a ceiling fan, making viewers think twice about looking up. This chilling scene alone could deter many from venturing into their kitchens at night.
“Deemak,” set for a 2025 release, is already creating a buzz with its teaser. Directed by Rafay Rashdi and penned by bestselling author Ayesha Muzaffar, the film promises to keep those with vivid imaginations on edge. Fresh from his role in “Khaie,” Faysal Quraishi leads the cast, offering a glimpse into a different facet of his acting prowess.
The film also features Sonya Hussyn alongside Quraishi, portraying his wife and mother to their children. The cast includes seasoned actors like Samina Peerzada, Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari, and Saman Ansari, all bringing depth to a genre that demands skill and presence.
The teaser reveals a haunting montage of the cast within the setting of an ancestral home. Whispers, a burial scene, and levitating beds intensify the atmosphere, accompanied by the ominous words: “It infests. It consumes. It destroys.”
The title “Deemak,” meaning “termites” in Urdu, symbolizes the silent but destructive force of the entities portrayed in the film, mirroring the stealthy devastation caused by termites.
The teaser offers brief yet intense glimpses of terror—Sheikh screaming, Quraishi petrified, Peerzada enigmatically looking on from a balcony, and shadows creeping ominously. The tension is tangible, bolstered by high-quality CGI and visual effects, thanks to Rashdi’s collaboration with a Canadian VFX team.
