According to reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), torrential rainfall and subsequent flooding led to the tragic loss of three lives in Balochistan on Thursday.
These unfortunate incidents occurred in the Khuzdar, Kech, and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan, contributing to a death toll of at least ten since monsoon rains began battering the region on June 19.
Impact of Floods and Government Response
PDMA’s rescue efforts have saved seven individuals from flash floods, with six people being rescued from Barkhan district and one from Harnai. However, the devastation extends beyond the loss of life.
Based on PDMA’s assessment, over 300 houses have been impacted by the floods, with 100 destroyed and more than 200 sustaining substantial damage.
The weather forecast from PDMA suggests that the region will continue to experience heavy rainfall until July 29, raising concerns about further damage and potential loss of life.
From a broader perspective, rainfall-induced incidents have been a source of significant damage nationwide. In Punjab, 66 people have lost their lives, with 41 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 15 in Sindh, 10 in Balochistan, 11 in Islamabad, six in AJK, and five in Gilgit-Baltistan. Beyond the loss of life, these events have injured over 233 individuals and damaged more than 468 homes.
