A devastating explosion at the Swabi City police station in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday resulted in the death of at least one person and injuries to 16 others, including police officers. The incident, which caused the building to collapse, was confirmed by local authorities.
The blast originated in the station’s storage room, where explosive materials seized from terrorists were stored. Initial reports suggest a short circuit triggered the explosion, leading to multiple detonations.
The District Police Officer (DPO) of Swabi reported that an investigation is in progress to ascertain the exact cause of the blast. “The explosion has severely damaged the building, and rescue teams are actively working on site,” he noted.
Rescue personnel and fire brigade teams promptly responded, evacuating the injured to nearby medical facilities, including the Bacha Khan Medical Complex, where an emergency was declared.
A hospital spokesperson reported that eight of the injured have been admitted, with two in critical condition. “Comprehensive medical care is underway, and the hospital staff is diligently monitoring the developments,” the spokesperson said.
Additionally, bomb disposal units have been deployed to secure the area and evaluate any further hazards.
