A car bomb detonation in the DI Khan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday resulted in two fatalities and 22 injuries. The explosion occurred near the Hathala police station, prompting a swift response from security personnel who sealed the area for preliminary investigations.
Victims were promptly transported to a CMH hospital for treatment. According to police, the bomb targeted vehicles commuting between Tank and DI Khan, though the affiliation of these vehicles remains unclear.
Experts from the bomb disposal unit commenced an inquiry to ascertain the nature and quantity of the explosives involved in the incident.
This attack follows a significant assault last December, claiming 23 soldiers’ lives in a suicide truck bombing at a security post in the same district. The military’s press office reported that the assault began with an explosive-laden vehicle breaching the post after entry denial, leading to a secondary suicide bombing and the subsequent structural collapse. This incident inflicted numerous casualties and resulted in six militants’ deaths, per the ISPR.
Speaking to Reuters, security officials noted that the affected building served as a base camp for the forces. There’s concern that ammunition within the premises might have ignited during the incident.
