The Karachi Kings have made a bold leadership move ahead of the upcoming HBL Pakistan Super League season, announcing Australian cricket superstar David Warner as their new captain for PSL 2025.
The explosive left-handed opener will lead the franchise when the tenth edition of Pakistan’s premier T20 competition starts on April 11, 2025.
Warner brings unparalleled T20 credentials to the Karachi-based franchise, having established himself as one of the most feared openers in the shortest format. His appointment comes after the Kings secured him as their first pick during the high-profile HBL PSL 2025 Players Draft held on January 13 in Lahore.
The Australian veteran’s leadership pedigree includes captaining Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League and numerous international campaigns, making him an ideal candidate to revitalize the Kings’ fortunes.
The franchise management thanked outgoing skipper Shan Masood for his contributions during PSL Season 9. In an official statement, they acknowledged: “Shan’s professional approach and tactical acumen were instrumental in laying the groundwork for a balanced squad. His leadership during the transition period has been invaluable to the Karachi Kings.”
Karachi fans will get their first look at Warner’s leadership when the Kings open their campaign against defending champions Multan Sultans on April 12 at National Bank Stadium. The high-profile fixture promises to showcase Warner’s aggressive brand of cricket against one of the league’s strongest opponents.
