DC Studios is launching a new era with David Corenswet taking on the role of Superman in James Gunn’s reboot, set for release on July 11, 2025, and offering a fresh interpretation of the Man of Steel. Corenswet follows in the footsteps of iconic actors like Christopher Reeve and Henry Cavill, bringing his own unique energy to the character.
David Packard Corenswet was born on July 8, 1993, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He grew up in a creative family; his father was an actor before becoming a lawyer. Corenswet began acting at a young age in regional theater and later attended the Juilliard School, where he graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Drama. This training sharpened his skills for both screen and stage acting.
His early career included short films and theatre. He gained notice with guest roles, like in “House of Cards” in 2018. Corenswet’s breakthrough came with the Netflix series. He starred in Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician” (2019) as River Barkley. He followed with “Hollywood” (2020), playing Jack Castello. These roles showcased his charisma and depth.

Corey Corenswet appeared in films such as “Pearl” (2022) and “Twisters” (2024). By 2025, his net worth is estimated to be $4 million, earned from his acting career and various endorsements. During the 2023 actors’ strike, James Gunn approached him about the role of Superman. Initially, Corenswet thought it was a prank. However, after auditioning, Gunn officially offered him the role in June 2023. This opportunity marked a pivotal moment in the 31-year-old actor’s career.
Corenswet expressed interest in Superman years earlier. He aims to emphasise Clark Kent’s heart and vulnerability. The film pivots to a hopeful tone under Gunn.

Corenswet trained rigorously for his physical role, gaining 25 to 30 pounds of muscle naturally. His training sessions lasted 2.5 hours each day and focused on strength and agility, as well as preparation for wirework for flight scenes. He did not use any performance enhancers. Mentally, he also studied Superman’s moral clarity to deepen his understanding of the character. His co-stars include Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
Corenswet married actress Julia Best Warner in 2023, and they welcomed a child in 2024. The couple lives a private life in Pennsylvania, which contrasts with his high-profile acting role. He envisions a Superman with emotional depth in an evolving genre, and his debut could redefine the character.
