The Counter-Terrorism Directorate (CTD) Karachi has gunned down the mastermind and accomplice of the terrorist attack against the Karachi Police Headquarters (KPO) on February 17.
In an Intelligence Based Operations (IBO), the CTD conducted a raid near the Northern Bypass in the Manghopir suburb of the city. In exchange, a fire killed Iriadullah, the architect and mastermind of the attack.
The CTD has confirmed that two suspects were apprehended, but CTD officials stated that the two terrorists, including the mastermind, had been killed. The second terrorist murdered has been identified as Abdul Waheed, while Iriadullah was a commander for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Karachi.
Last month, three terrorists clad in suicide vests invaded the multi-story KPO facility. During the subsequent operation, police commandos and paramilitary men cleared the building.
During the operation, which lasted more than four hours and resulted in the deaths of all three terrorists, two police officers and a sub-inspector of the Sindh Rangers chose martyrdom.
DIG East Muqadas Haider, DIG South Ifran Baloch, DIG Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) Nasir Aftab, Special Security Unit (SSU), and Sindh Rangers participated in the tight operation. The Pakistan Army also assisted law enforcement.
