A law enforcement agency spokesperson on Tuesday said a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) squad was attacked in the North Waziristan tribal region. An exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of four militants and three prisoners.
According to the official, the CTD personnel transported three prisoners from Miranshah to Bannu when terrorists ambushed them near the Mir Ali Bypass. This resulted in the deaths of all prisoners and four militants.
The spokesman elaborated that the attackers desired to liberate their allies.
The terrorists who were killed carried out grenade attacks on law enforcement and security personnel in addition to targeted killings, such as the attack on the Cantt Police Station and the death of constable Iftikhar.
According to a spokesperson for the security agency, four submachine guns, cartridges, and other ammunition were discovered among the deceased.
The CTD continued by stating that after the attack, heavy police parties and security forces searched the neighborhood to locate the fleeing terrorists.
Since the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire last year, terrorist attacks have increased across the country, particularly in its northern and northwestern regions, raising the ugly head of insurgency.
However, consultations are currently occurring between the government and other interested parties regarding addressing the grave threat posed by terrorism.
