China recently unveiled the CR450, its prototype for the next-generation high-speed train, CNN reported on Tuesday. Demonstrated in Beijing on December 29, this train has tested at speeds up to 450 kilometres (281 miles) per hour. It plans to operate regularly at 400 kilometres (248.5 miles) per hour.
This model is set to outpace China’s CR400, which started service in 2017 and reaches speeds of 350 kilometres (217 miles) per hour. This advancement could make the CR450 the world’s fastest high-speed rail vehicle.
CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles and CRRC Sifang Co Ltd developed the CR450, gaining praise for its speed, energy efficiency, noise reduction, and advanced braking. Per China Daily, the train has completed over 3,000 simulations and 2,000 platform tests to confirm its readiness for commercial use.
However, the China State Railway Group noted that further tests and improvements are required to meet operational standards. This vast system has revolutionized travel nationwide, offering a fast, reliable transport option for journeys up to 700 miles.
