An Islamabad accountability court restricted PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, from criticizing state institutions and officials during court sessions. At a petition hearing for a fair trial, Judge Basir Javed Rana instructed the couple to avoid courtroom remarks targeting these institutions.
The court noted that Imran had made incendiary political comments against entities like the military and judiciary, including remarks about the army chief. Such statements were seen as undermining judicial decorum and the administration of justice.
Additionally, the court decreed that media coverage during Imran’s jail trial should focus solely on court proceedings, excluding any commentary from the accused. The prosecution and defence were advised against making political or provocative statements that could disrupt court order.
Moreover, the media received orders to omit political and provocative narratives against state bodies and their officials, adhering to guidelines from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority, which bans discussing active court cases.
