Emirates profits up 8pc despite route closures
DUBAI: Emirates Airline posted an 8.2 per cent rise in half year profits to $514 million, it said Wednesday, stressing that routes being suspended and a runway closure accounted for lower than expected results.
The Middle East’s largest carrier said revenues in the first six months of the 2014-2015 financial year increased 11pc to 44.2 billion dirhams ($12bn), while passenger figures also went up 8.4pc to 23.3m.
PCAA to set up communication system
KARACHI: Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) have signed an agreement to install communication system at Civil Aviation Headquarters, said a press release.
The system, to be installed within 120 days, has a backup system in place which will transmit the data via wireless communication.
Hyundai, Kia to triple green cars range by 2020
SEOUL: Hyundai Motor Co and affiliate Kia Motors Corp plan to triple their number of fuel-efficient cars by 2020, addressing concerns about the pair’s green track record and competitiveness in fuel economy.
Investors have voiced concern about Hyundai’s latest Genesis and Kia’s Soul having lower fuel mileage than their predecessors, and about a $350 million fine in the United States for overstating vehicles’ fuel economy.
KWGA chairman elected
KARACHI: Anis Majeed yesterday was elected unopposed Chairman of Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association (KWGA) for two years (up to 2016), said a press release.
Malik Zulfiqar Ali and Bashir Haji Dawood Latiwalla were elected Senior Vice-Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively.
