The incident with Lady Gaga occurred during a compassion conference in Indiana, where they discussed supporting individuals facing physical and psychological challenges. Unfortunately, despite the event’s focus on empathy and understanding, the Dalai Lama’s behavior drew further negative attention.
In the 17-second video, the spiritual leader appears distracted by the woman speaking at the conference. He notices Lady Gaga’s ripped jeans and touches her exposed skin with his left hand. When he attempts to do the same with her other leg, the singer intercepts his hand, preventing him from continuing.
The controversy surrounding the Dalai Lama has recently intensified, igniting an online debate about his conduct and fitness as a religious leader.
A separate video of the Dalai Lama, where he is seen asking a child to “suck” on his tongue and kissing the child on the mouth during a Buddhist event, has also stirred controversy on social media. The viral video, taken at an event with young attendees from the M3M Foundation in India on February 18, 2023, has led to criticism of the Tibetan leader’s behavior.
The incident happened while the Dalai Lama delivered a speech, and a child approached him to pay respect. Instead of dismissing the interruption, the Dalai Lama welcomed the boy to his table, embraced him, and kissed him. His request for the child to suck on his tongue outraged many. The Tibetan leader has since issued an apology.
