Conor McGregor has expressed his aspiration to face Michael Chandler in June and Nate Diaz in the fall as he eyes a return to the Octagon in 2024.
McGregor, sidelined for over two years due to a leg fracture sustained against Dustin Poirier, remains under contract. Despite his hiatus, he has agreed to star alongside Chandler in a new season of The Ultimate Fighter, anticipating a bout following the show.
However, neither athlete has competed since their agreement, with Chandler’s last victory against Tony Ferguson. During a recent appearance, McGregor disclosed his expectations for 2024, targeting a matchup with Chandler at UFC 303 and aiming to conclude his trilogy with Diaz.
McGregor’s anticipation for these fights became evident when he mentioned his plans while signing autographs, further ignited by Chandler’s hint at an upcoming intensive training camp. UFC President Dana White has attributed McGregor’s absence from the ring not to a need for financial gain but to contract negotiations.
McGregor also shared insights into the upcoming release of his ‘Roadhouse’ film but emphasized his eagerness for the Chandler fight during International Fight Week on June 29. However, he voiced concerns over the lack of progress in finalizing the date, citing a need for a decision to focus entirely on his preparation. McGregor’s goal to face Diaz for Mexican Independence Day highlights his clear vision for his future in the sport despite current uncertainties.
