Arun Reddy, the head of social media for India’s main opposition party, Congress, has been arrested for allegedly manipulating a viral video featuring Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.
Reddy was detained on Friday evening following accusations that he edited a video to falsely portray Shah announcing the repeal of policies benefiting the poor and lower-caste Hindus at an election rally.
Delhi’s Police Commissioner, Hemant Tiwari, confirmed that Reddy’s arrest is part of a broader investigation into the alleged video manipulation. Following his arrest, Reddy was presented before a court and remains in police custody. Authorities have also seized all of his electronic devices for forensic examination.
In response to the incident, Congress spokesperson Shama Mohammed vehemently denied the accusations against Reddy, asserting that he had no involvement in any form of video manipulation. Mohammed also stated that the Congress Party supported Reddy during this legal challenge.
