Two Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officers have been fired due to their alleged involvement in the leak of the family’s income tax information of Army leader (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ordered SAPM on Revenue Mr. Tariq Mehmood Pasha to personally head an inquiry into the violation of tax law and breach of FBR data, assign responsibility, and produce a report as soon as possible in response to the disclosure of tax information.
In light of the report’s findings, Deputy Commissioner of Inland Revenue Atif Nawaz Waraich and DC Inland Revenue Zahoor Ahmed have been removed from their positions, according to the first report.
According to sources, the COAS family’s tax information was compromised through their username and password.
Officers of the FBR are conducting additional investigations under Income Tax Ordinance Section 198 and 2016.
Last week, the Finance Minister took note of the illegal and improper disclosure of tax information on the COAS and his family.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, Ishaq Dar stated that releasing tax information is a clear breach of the law, which protects the confidentiality of tax information.
