Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to meet in Islamabad today  to discuss the situation in Islamabad.

According to sources, PM Abbas and COAS will discuss the sit-in being held on the Faizabad Interchange by a religious group, which has entered its 21st today despite the commencement of a security forces operation on Saturday.

The army chief was on a visit to the United Arab Emirates and cut short his trip to reach the country last night.

On Saturday, COAS telephoned Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and discussed the ongoing situation regarding the crackdown on protesters in Islamabad.

According to a tweet by DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, “COAS telephoned the prime minister, suggested him to handle Islamabad Dharna peacefully, avoiding violence from both sides as it is not in national interest and cohesion.”
