General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), emphasized that combating terrorism requires the unwavering support of all Pakistanis and the dedicated efforts of military and civil institutions to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for the nation.
A press release from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that the army chief attended the funeral prayers for those who lost their lives in a suicide bombing at Quetta Railway Station, which targeted innocent citizens and travellers.
The Federal Minister of Interior, Chief Minister of Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti, Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, provincial ministers, and numerous military and civilian officials attended the funeral.
Following the funeral, General Munir visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta to check on the injured from the tragic event. He declared that terrorism in any form is intolerable and reiterated the nation’s determination to eliminate this threat. “This mission will continue with the utmost national resolve and collective determination,” the ISPR quoted him as saying.
Upon his arrival, General Munir was received by the Commander of the Balochistan Corps.
In related comments, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stressed the need for the country to recognize and combat the terrorist threat without compromise. Speaking with the Interior Minister at a hospital in Quetta, Bugti criticized some human rights activists for their silence on the attack and accused them of political manipulation that encouraged the youth to turn to violence.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi expressed a strong commitment to eradicating terrorism and stated that the security forces had recently thwarted five terrorist attempts. He confirmed that the federal government fully supports the Balochistan government in counterterrorism efforts and regional development. In response to questions, Naqvi mentioned that the Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into the Quetta Railway Station bombing.
