Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has approved a plan to support conduct of 6th Population and Housing Census.
According to Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), up to 200,000 troops will take part in the process while continuing other security responsibilities.
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics had announced to hold population census from March this year.
A meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last month agreed to begin Pakistan’s sixth population census on March 15,2017. The meeting was attended by chief ministers of country’s federating units.
Briefing media in Islamabad, Chief Statistician of the Bureau, Asif Bajwa said the census will be conducted in two phases simultaneously in all the four provinces.
The census in the federal capital Islamabad will also be conducted in the first phase.
