Sindh government has extended Rangers special powers for another 90 days.

A notification has been issued allowing Rangers to stay in Karachi for another year and extend special policing powers for an additional period of 90 days.

Spokesperson Chief Minister House Sindh in a statement issued on Monday. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved Rangers stay in Karachi for one more year, allowing them to continue using their special policing powers for 90 more days.

“The federal interior ministry has already been notified in this matter,” said the Chief Minister House press release.

The decision came after Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari gave a go-ahead to CM Sindh to extend Rangers stay and their special powers in Karachi, sources said.

Shah had a meeting with Zardari in Dubai on Sunday during which the latter ordered the CM to notify Rangers’ stay in Karachi with policing powers, revealed sources close to the Sindh government.

They said Zardari had summoned Shah in a bid to discuss key issues of the provincial government particularly the case of extending special policing powers for Rangers.

Meanwhile, the federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is also scheduled to do a press conference later today regarding the extension of Rangers powers in Sindh.

Earlier, on Saturday, the federal minister while talking to media representatives in Taxila had shown optimism that the paramilitary forces would get an extension in Sindh by Monday.

The minister added that he supports Rangers presence in the province and wants them to stay in Karachi until law and order situation normalises in the city.
