Civil-military heads resolve to counter hostile intelligence agencies

The civil-military leadership vowed on Tuesday to not allow hostile intelligence agencies and their facilitators foment terrorism inside Pakistan, said a statement released by the military’s media wing Inter Services Public Relations.

At a high-level civil-military meeting held at GHQ today, the leaders discussed issues relating to national security while taking cognisance of ongoing regional developments and inimical designs against the stability and prosperity of the country.

The meeting was attended by Army chief General Raheel Sharif, DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and other senior civil and military officials.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to enduring regional peace, it was underlined that hostile intelligence agencies will not be allowed to foment trouble inside the country.

On May 26, six agents belonging to two networks of Afghan intelligence agency NDS and having involvement in acts of terrorism and targeted killing inside the country, were caught from Quetta.

The arrests had come two months after Indian spy and a serving naval office Kulbhushan Yadav, detained from Balochistan, confessed spy agency RAW’s involvement in the country.

The participants dwelt at length on various issues relating to the external and internal  security situation of the country, including the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The meeting expressed its concern on the US drone strike on May 21, saying it was a clear violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty affecting mutual trust.

The strike also undermined the spirit of Afghan peace process under mutually agreed quadrilateral  framework.

It was noted that the success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb had been phenomenal and it was agreed that the achievements in bringing stability in the country will have to be sustained at all costs.

The leadership resolved to protect the core national interests and effectively counter any negative outside influence.

Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, Naitonal Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz and Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary attended the meeting.

Earlier on Monday, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said some countries were conspiring against the CPEC, but vowed that no world power would be able to sabotage the project.
