Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang recently emphasized at the Lanting Forum in Shanghai that China has rightful ownership of both sides of the Taiwan Strait and that defending its sovereignty is a legitimate act.
The forum covered various topics, including debt, the global economy, and Taiwan.
Qin denounced recent accusations claiming that China is responsible for undermining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, labeling these assertions absurd and their conclusions as dangerous. He highlighted that unbiased observers could discern the real instigators of hegemonic bullying and arrogant actions.
Qin underscored that it is not mainland China causing disruption but Taiwan’s separatist forces and a select few countries seeking to change the status quo. However, he sternly warned that those interfering in Taiwan affairs will eventually face repercussions.
These statements come on the heels of China’s military exercises conducted near the self-governed island of Taiwan.
The drills responded to Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen’s meeting with U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy in Los Angeles. Beijing considers democratic Taiwan as part of its territory, a claim that the government in Taipei firmly rejects. Moreover, China persistently opposes and condemns high-level engagements between Taiwanese officials and leaders from foreign nations.
