Chelsea FC have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday, following a downturn in domestic results.
The decision comes after Chelsea managed just one win in their last seven league matches, a run that saw the London side slip from title contention to fifth place in the standings. At the halfway stage of the season, Chelsea sit 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Maresca, 45, joined Chelsea in 2024 after guiding Leicester City back to the Premier League. His debut season at Stamford Bridge delivered silverware and progress, with Chelsea securing Champions League qualification, lifting the Conference League trophy, and winning the Club World Cup.

However, a poor run of form in December, coupled with an uncharacteristic public outburst from the Italian coach, is understood to have influenced the club’s decision to act midway through the campaign.
“Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company,” the club said in an official statement. “With key objectives still to play for across four competitions, including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.”

Chelsea had climbed to third place in November and were considered early title contenders before their form deteriorated in recent weeks. The club has yet to confirm who will take charge on an interim basis ahead of Sunday’s league clash against second-placed Manchester City.
