Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), paid a visit to his cousin, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in Camp Jail, Lahore on Monday. This comes amidst a significant departure of leaders from the erstwhile ruling party.
According to officials familiar with the matter, Shujaat’s son, Chaudhry Salik Hussain, was also present during the visit. The discussion centered around Elahi’s health and the changing political landscape in the wake of the riots on May 9th.

Elahi was detained by anti-corruption officials near his Lahore residence on June 1 concerning a Rs70 million corruption case. The case accuses Elahi of misappropriating development funds meant for the Gujrat district.
Earlier this year, Elahi was suspended from the PML-Q after speculating about a potential merger with the PTI. However, by March 7, he was officially designated as the president of the PTI.
Shujaat stated, “Parvez Elahi is part of our family; hence I visited him [in jail].” He revealed that Elahi’s health was deteriorating, and his feet were swollen.
When queried about the possibility of Elahi returning to the PML-Q, Shujaat responded, “Parvez Elahi is already in our party.” His response, paired with a significant smile when reminded that Elahi was the president of the PTI, hinted at underlying complexities.
