Thrilling Ferrari fans, Charles Leclerc secured a victory at the Italian Grand Prix. This marked his second win of the season, previously victorious at the Monaco GP. The race at Monza saw Leclerc outpace McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, with Max Verstappen finishing sixth, nearly 38 seconds behind.
Reflecting on his win, Leclerc shared the emotional significance of repeating his 2019 victory. He maintained the lead on hard tyres after a single pit stop on lap 16, while his rivals pitted twice.
Despite starting on pole and recording the fastest lap, Norris reduced Verstappen’s championship lead to 62 points as the season advanced.
Verstappen’s recent performance has raised questions about his dominance. Since winning in Spain, he has only been on the podium twice, and his team, Red Bull, now faces a close contest with McLaren in the constructors’ standings.
In other racing news, Argentine rookie Franco Colapinto finished 12th in his F1 debut, replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams. Meanwhile, Leonardo Fornaroli clinched the F3 title, becoming the first Italian champion without winning a race. Gabriel Bortoleto won the F2 race, starting from behind the grid and significantly closing in on the championship leader.
