On Wednesday, Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz distanced himself from a lawsuit against the ATP Tour. The Novak Djokovic-led Professional Tennis Players’ Association (PTPA) filed the case, but Alcaraz, ranked world number three, said he doesn’t support it.
Speaking before the Miami Open, the Spaniard revealed he had no prior notice of the Carlos Alcaraz PTPA lawsuit or the union’s sharp statement released Tuesday.
“I was surprised,” Alcaraz said. “Nobody told me anything about it. I only saw it on social media yesterday.” The PTPA cited a quote from his past press conference criticizing the tour schedule. However, Alcaraz clarified he didn’t authorize its use. “They put something I said, but I didn’t know about it. I don’t support that letter because I wasn’t informed,” he added.

Mixed Feelings on Carlos Alcaraz PTPA Lawsuit
Alcaraz shared mixed views on the lawsuit’s claims. The PTPA filing attacks the ATP and WTA Tour for alleged systemic issues. “There are things I agree with and others I don’t,” he said. “But the main point is I’m not backing this.” He’s focused on his game, not the legal fight for now.

Djokovic and Canada’s Vasek Pospisil founded the PTPA in 2020. The union named 20 players in its actions. Their statement calls out “systemic abuse, anti-competitive practices, and disregard for player welfare” in tennis. Specifically, it accuses the ATP, WTA, ITF, and ITIA of operating like a cartel with “draconian” restraints.
"Honestamente no apoyo esa carta. No la apoyo porque no sabía nada sobre eso. Coincido en algunas cosas, en otras no. Pero lo principal es que no la apoyo".

The ATP, WTA, International Tennis Federation (ITF), and Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) rejected the charges. They defended their operations and denied the PTPA’s accusations. Meanwhile, the Carlos Alcaraz PTPA lawsuit controversy continues to stir debate as the Miami Open nears.
Alcaraz, a rising star, remains neutral. His focus stays on the court, not the courtroom. Still, the dispute highlights growing tensions in professional tennis.
