The state governor confirmed that a devastating plane crash transpired in Brazil’s northern Amazonas state this Saturday, leading to the tragic death of fourteen individuals onboard. The event unfolded in the Barcelos province, approximately 400 kilometres (248 miles) from the state capital, Manaus.
In a heartfelt statement conveyed through the platform formerly known as Twitter, Governor Wilson Lima of Amazonas State articulated his deep sadness over the tragic loss of twelve passengers and two crew members in the accident. “Our team has been tirelessly working to provide necessary support since the onset of this tragedy. My heartfelt condolences and prayers are with the families and friends impacted by this devastating incident,” said Governor Lima.
Ongoing Investigation
In response to the tragedy, the Manaus Aerotaxi company issued an official statement acknowledging the crash and vowing to undertake a thorough investigation. While the release did not divulge specific details regarding the fatalities or potential injuries from the event, it stressed the importance of respecting the privacy of those affected during this trying time. The airline also promised to inform the public with appropriate updates as the investigation progresses.
Following the official announcement by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the Accident Investigation and Prevention Centre (CENIPA) has been called upon to spearhead an inquiry into the underlying causes of the crash involving the Embraer Bandeirante aircraft registered under PT-SOG.
In a recent interview with O Globo newspaper, Governor Lima revealed that the deceased, who were Brazilian tourists, had been successfully recovered from the crash site.
