Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula One movie will be released globally on June 25 next year, followed by a North American debut on June 27, as F1 and Apple Original Films announced on Tuesday. Joseph Kosinski directed the film, which Jerry Bruckheimer produced. The film has seen significant collaboration from F1 teams and drivers. Kosinski’s previous work includes the blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick,” which earned $1.49 billion worldwide.
Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film in cinemas and IMAX. Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time F1 world champion, is on board as a co-producer. Filming began last year and has taken place during selected Grand Prix weekends.
In the film, Pitt plays a former driver attempting a comeback in Formula One, joining the fictional 11th team, ‘APX GP,’ alongside a rookie teammate played by Damson Idris. The cast also features Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon.
The movie will wrap up production at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December. It aims to build on the success of Netflix’s “Drive to Survive,” which has significantly boosted F1’s global popularity, especially in the U.S., where the sport now boasts races in Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas.
Lewis Hamilton commented on the project’s potential, noting the impact of “Drive to Survive” and expressing optimism for the film’s ability to elevate the sport’s profile further.
