On Monday, Bol Network disclosed its acquisition by AsiaPak Investments, a private equity firm focused on various sectors within Pakistan, including technology and infrastructure. The firm, with offices in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, appointed Sameer Chishty as the new Chairman and CEO of Bol Network. Chishty, a veteran technology investor in Asia and the Middle East, emphasized the pivotal role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in transforming societies and economies globally. He envisions Bol as a platform to foster education and community engagement in Pakistan, promising innovative content generation and distribution strategies.
Chishty invites audiences, advertisers, and employees to join Bol in its mission to facilitate more inclusive and informed communities. Originally slated to launch its TV channel in 2015, the network faced delays due to legal issues involving its parent company, Axact, and a change in ownership in 2015 before eventually commencing operations in October 2016. The network’s initial owner, Shoaib Shaikh, was later convicted in a fake degree scandal in 2018.
