A petition has been submitted to the Lahore High Court challenging the election symbol used by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)
Senior journalist Shakir Mahmood Awan reported this development on the social media platform X (Twitter), emphasizing the significant impact this case could have on the PPP’s electoral prospects.
The petition alleges that Bilawal Bhutto, while serving as the chairman of the PPP, wrongfully filed his nomination papers in Lahore under the banner of a different faction, the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP), which is led by Asif Ali Zardari as president.
The petition criticizes the Election Commission of Pakistan for not addressing this discrepancy, which involves the misuse of the PPP’s flag and electoral symbol an arrow contrary to legal provisions.
The legal challenge further accuses Asif Ali Zardari of using the PPP’s symbols in violation of the Election Act 2017. It urges the court to declare Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s submission of nomination papers under the PPPP for the NA-127 seat as illegal. It seeks a directive for PEMRA to enforce the correct usage of Bilawal Bhutto’s official title in media coverage.
