Balochistan High Court (BHC) stopped the provincial government and agencies from initiating further FIRs against PTI Senator Azam Swati and transporting him out of Quetta.
PTI leader was detained last month over tweets criticizing military officers. The FIA arrested him for violating Section 20 of the 2016 Prevention of Electronic Crime Act (Peca), which deals with crimes against a person’s dignity.
In Balochistan and Sindh, he was accused of using “derogatory language” and “provoking the populace against the army.” Azam was taken to Quetta on Friday after an Islamabad judge handed him over to Balochistan police. On Sunday, a judge remanded him in police detention for five days.
A two-member bench of Justices Kamran Mulakhail and Aamir Rana issued the judgment today after hearing a petition by Osman Swati to ban law enforcement officials from submitting “false, fraudulent, and malicious FIRs” against his father.
