The Guinness World Records, a bell pepper weighing almost 1 kilo set a new world record at the UK National Giant Vegetables Championships.
At the UK National Giant Vegetables Championships 2024, held in Worcestershire from September 27 to 29, Guinness World Records noted twelve record-setting fruits and vegetables.
The event, a staple of the annual Malvern Autumn Show, has become a celebrated tradition. Among the notable participants was eight-year-old Dasha Edwards from South Wales, who, with the guidance of experienced gardeners Chris Fowler and Kevin Fortey, managed to grow the longest aubergine, measuring 41 cm (1 ft 4.1 in), on her family’s farm park near Cardiff.
In addition, 81-year-old Ian Neale from the UK captured a Guinness World Record with a green pepper weighing 966 g (2 lb 2.8 oz), seven times heavier than the average supermarket pepper.
Another prominent gardener, Joe Atherton from Nottingham, known as the “King of the Longs,” set records for the longest turnip and radish. His turnip measured 4.842 meters (15 feet 10.6 inches), and his radish stretched 7.401 meters (24 feet 3.4 inches), surpassing the length of a minibus. Atherton’s previous records include the longest carrot, parsnip, and beetroot achieved in prior years.
Guinness World Records said this year’s championship featured unprecedented record-breaking entries over a weekend.
