A biopic on Ali Saleem, aka Begum Nawazish, a Pakistani television personality, is reportedly in the works, per a report by Indo-Asian News Service (IANS).
Saleem, an actor, television host, scriptwriter, and impressionist, gained immense fame for their impersonations of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and their portrayal of the cross-dressing Begum Nawazish Ali on various TV channels.
The CEO of EORTV, Deepak Pandey, announced the biopic and expressed his desire to cast Mallika Sherawat for the lead role. He described the character of Begum Nawazish Ali as “multifaceted and needed someone as courageous and undaunted as the Begum thyself.” He also stated that he would approach Mallika Sherawat for the role, believing she would be apt for a fearless performance like this.
Pandey said that the film is a story of boldness and courage, and it’s important to create stories like this that encourage people to be open about their sexuality and preferences. He praised the background and journey of Begum Nawazish Ali, saying that it is interesting, and the journey he makes in the course of his life is even more interesting.
Pandey also mentioned that Ali had interviewed the who’s who from business, politics, and entertainment with gusto. He has courted satire and controversy but managed to make a place in the hearts of the common man. “His life will make for very compelling content on screen,” Pandey added.
