After meeting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar firmly denied recent reports of nominating Asad Qaiser as the new PTI chairman.
In a statement on X, Zafar addressed the rumours: “A fake news attributed to me is circulating that Asad Qaiser and Ali Muhammad Khan have been appointed chairman and secretary general. I have not issued any such statement.”

This clarification follows speculative reports claiming that Imran Khan had replaced Barrister Gohar Ali Khan with Asad Qaiser, the former National Assembly Speaker, as the PTI chairman. These reports portrayed Zafar as confirming that the leadership shuffle was intended to allow seasoned leaders to steer the PTI.
It’s important to note that this leadership change rumours surfaced amid heavy criticism of party leaders for their absence during the PTI protest in Islamabad. This protest also coincided with the resignation of Salman Akram Raja, the then-secretary general.

Additionally, the party is currently facing challenges following the arrest of numerous party workers after a significant crackdown on PTI protesters in Islamabad.
In December 2023, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was elected unopposed as PTI chairman, succeeding Imran Khan, who had nominated him for the role following his disqualification in the Toshakhana case.
