Bank Alfalah’s Head office, situated at I.I. Chundrigar Road in Karachi, caught fire early this morning (Wednesday).

According to sources, at least five firefighting vehicles are busy to extinguish the fire.

Sources also added that the fire broke out at the fourth floor of a building situated near State Bank at I.I Chundrigar Road.

The firefighters are facing difficulties as the bank offices are barely accessible and emergency stairs are not accessible as offices disposed of requirements have been dumped on them.

An employee of the bank, on a condition not to disclose identity, said that most of the employees, especially higher management, smoke in their offices, and there is no reserved area for smoking.

According to an eyewitness the smokes are still seen billowing out of the bank’s windows.

According to the fire brigade officials, at least five vehicles are involved in the operation and half of the menacing fire has been brought under control.

According to Chief Fire Officer Tehseen Ahmed Siddiqui, the fire erupted due to a short circuit. He said different teams of the fire brigade squad are screening different floors of the premises.

Siddiqui also added that two more firefighting vehicles have been called in so that the operation could be expedited and the bank could continue its routine operations today.
