A mass shooting took place at Bangkok’s Or Tor Kor Market on July 28, 2025, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including the shooter, according to police reports. The unidentified gunman killed four security guards and a woman before taking his own life amid ongoing border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia. Footage from the scene captured the chaos as people fled from the sound of gunfire.

An unidentified gunman opened fire at the popular fresh food market near Chatuchak Weekend Market, a major tourist spot. Bang Sue district deputy police chief Worapat Sukthai stated: “It’s a mass shooting; we’re investigating the motive and any link to border clashes.” The attack killed five, with the gunman dying by suicide, totalling six fatalities.

Security camera footage showed people running as gunshots were fired. One clip captured the shooter dashing through a parking lot with a handgun. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as shoppers fled in fear.

The police arrived quickly and secured the scene. Sukthai confirmed that the shooter acted alone and used a handgun, but the motives for the attack remain unclear. Investigations are looking into possible connections to tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border, where 12 people were killed on July 24, according to Reuters. No additional threats have been reported; however, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant.

Thailand experiences frequent mass shootings due to lax gun control, with firearms easily obtainable, per Amnesty International. The Or Tor Kor incident follows a 2023 mall shooting that killed 14.

The shooting disrupts Bangkok’s tourism, a key economic driver with 40 million annual visitors, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Calls for stricter gun laws intensify, with Amnesty urging reforms. As investigations continue, the incident highlights public safety vulnerabilities. The Or Tor Kor shooting underscores Thailand’s gun violence challenges. Police probe links to border clashes, while communities mourn the loss.
