During the 18th match of the ILT20 2025 between the Sharjah Warriors and Desert Vipers on January 25, 2025, Pakistan’s star wicket-keeper batter Azam Khan was at the centre of a comical moment.
While keeping wicket for the Vipers, a mix-up occurred in the 18th over of the Sharjah Warriors’ innings. Both playing for the Warriors, Ashton Agar and Luke Wells ended up at the non-striker’s end due to a miscommunication, presenting a straightforward run-out chance for the Vipers.
However, the situation swiftly became a comedic mishap as he rolled on the ground while trying to gather the throw near the striker’s end, missing the ball completely. This blunder, compounded by insufficient support from his teammates, allowed the batters to evade the run-out and sneak in several runs.
Despite the on-field blunder, the Desert Vipers, powered by formidable performances from Alex Hales and Sam Curran, secured an eight-wicket victory over the Warriors. The pair amassed a remarkable 128-run partnership in just 65 balls, effortlessly chasing down a target of 152. Hales notched up a brisk 36-ball half-century, while Curran contributed a rapid 33-ball fifty, propelling the Vipers to a decisive win in just 14.5 overs and moving them closer to the playoff stages.
Earlier in the game, David Payne’s incisive bowling claimed two crucial wickets for the Vipers. Khuzaima Tanveer of the UAE also made significant inroads into the Warriors’ lineup, claiming four wickets and disrupting their middle and lower order. At the same time, Jason Roy’s spirited 55 off 38 balls was a highlight for the Warriors.
