In Azad Kashmir, the Department of Electricity has implemented new tariffs for domestic and commercial consumers this month.
Under the new tariff structure in Azad Kashmir, domestic consumers using up to 100 units are charged 3 rupees per unit. Those using between 100 and 300 units are billed at 5 rupees per unit, while consumers using more than 300 units are charged 6 rupees per unit.
The rate is 15 rupees per unit for commercial consumers in Azad Kashmir. A consumer using 51 units received a bill of 153 rupees, while a consumer using 392 units received a bill of 2,352 rupees.
Notably, in May of this year, the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Public Action Committee organized protests in Azad Kashmir against the increase in electricity prices. They demanded that the government provide electricity at the production cost of hydropower and further subsidize the price of flour.
Following the protests, the Azad Kashmir government issued a notification for the new electricity tariff.
